Everything people ask before hiring us
26 honest answers, including the awkward ones.
These are the questions Olga actually gets by text and phone, written out the way Dmitriy answers them at the house. Where the answer is “it depends”, we say what it depends on. Where the answer is no, we say no.

Asked in almost every first text
The three that come up first
Price
Why can’t you give me a price over the phone?
For a deck, a fence or one room we often can — text two photos and you get a range the same day. For a whole house, half the price sits in the condition of the wood and the caulk, and that cannot be seen in a photo. A guessed number is not one you can plan around.
Trust
Who actually shows up at my house?
Dmitriy comes for the estimate. For the job it is Dmitriy with his sons Maxim and Nazar. We do not subcontract.
After
What happens if the paint fails in two years?
You text the same number and we come back and fix it at our cost — three years on exterior paint, two inside. It covers peeling, blistering and flaking on surfaces we prepped. It does not cover rot that started behind the siding or a fence a car backed into.
Estimates and booking
Why can’t you give me a price over the phone?
For a deck, a fence or one room we often can — text two photos and you get a range the same day. For a whole house, half the price sits in the condition of the wood and the caulk, and that cannot be seen in a photo. A guessed number is not one you can plan around.
Is the estimate really free, even if I do not hire you?
Yes. No fee, no travel charge, no mailing list. Dmitriy drives out, measures, sends the written price the next day, and if the answer is no you hear from us once and that is it.
How long does the visit take, and do I have to be home for all of it?
About forty minutes. Be there for the first ten so you can point at what bothers you — after that he measures and photographs, and you can get on with your day.
How soon can someone come out?
Usually two to three days. Zone 1 is often next day; further south Dmitriy comes on the next day he is already working down there.
Do you take a deposit to hold a date?
No. Nothing is due until the final walkthrough. A date is held by the calendar, not by your money.
Can you quote a rental or a house I am selling, without me there?
Yes, as long as we can get to all sides of the house. Leave the gate unlocked, and the written estimate with photos comes to you by email the next day.
I only need one room painted — is a visit worth your time?
Yes, if you are in Zone 1 or 2. The minimum job is $150, and a single room is often a same-week slot between bigger houses.
Price and payment
Can the final invoice come out higher than the estimate?
Only if we open something up and find damage nobody could see — rot under the siding is the usual one. When that happens the work stops, you get a photo and a number in writing, and nothing continues until you say yes. We do not add extras quietly.
What is the cheapest job you will take?
A $150 half-day handyman visit in Zone 1 or 2. Further out we bundle small work with a bigger job so the truck makes one trip.
When do I pay, and how?
At the final walkthrough, once you have looked at everything and we have touched up whatever you point at. Zelle, cash or check — we do not take cards yet.
Is the paint included in your square-foot rate?
Yes, paint and primer are in the rate. Window units, fence material beyond the standard cedar spec and rented staging are billed at supplier cost with receipts.
Will you match a cheaper quote from another contractor?
Not by cutting prep. If a cheaper bid skips the wash, the scraping or the primer, that is where the difference is — ask them to write out the prep and compare the two pages line by line.
How the work goes
Who actually shows up at my house?
Dmitriy comes for the estimate. For the job it is Dmitriy with his sons Maxim and Nazar. We do not subcontract.
How much prep do you actually do?
Wash, scrape the loose paint, sand the edges, caulk the open joints, prime every bare spot, and mask the windows, lights and plants. It is most of the days on site and it is inside the rate, not a line you can decline.
How many days will my house be a job site?
Four to eight days for a typical exterior, three to six for a main floor inside. The estimate names the number and Olga calls you if weather moves it.
Can I live in the house while you paint inside?
Yes. We work one floor at a time, cover the furniture and paper the floors, and re-mask every morning so you keep a room to live in.
Who picks the colours — and what if I hate it once it is up?
You pick; we put large samples on the actual wall first, because a chip in the kitchen tells you nothing about how a colour reads outside. Once two coats are on, a change is a new job at the same rate.
What do you need from me before day one?
Access to all sides, an outdoor tap, the gate unlocked and the dogs inside. Cars off the driveway on spray days. Everything else we bring.
What does the yard look like when you leave?
The way it did before we arrived. Tape off, plants uncovered, debris hauled away, and Nazar walks it with you before the invoice.
Warranty and paint
What happens if the paint fails in two years?
You text the same number and we come back and fix it at our cost — three years on exterior paint, two inside. It covers peeling, blistering and flaking on surfaces we prepped. It does not cover rot that started behind the siding or a fence a car backed into.
Does the warranty transfer if I sell the house?
Yes. It follows the work, not the owner. Tell the buyer to text the same number with the address.
What paint do you use, and can I ask for a different brand?
Professional-grade products chosen for the surface and the exposure. If you want a specific brand, buy it and we will hang it — the labour warranty still stands, the product warranty is then the maker’s.
Do I need to register the warranty anywhere?
No. It is written on your estimate. Text the address and roughly when we painted it, and Dmitriy comes and looks.
Areas, weather and schedule
Do you paint in Seattle rain?
Interiors, always. Exteriors need the siding dry and two dry days after the last coat, so we watch the forecast and book around it. That is why spring and summer fill up first.
Do I pay extra for the drive to my city?
No. The same starting rates apply in all 21 cities — no travel line, no fuel surcharge. The distance costs us time, not you money.
My city is not on your list. Will you still come?
Ask anyway and expect a straight answer. We have gone further for a big exterior or a house we already painted once. For a half-day job an hour out, the honest answer is usually no.
Worth saying plainly
Jobs we turn down
Ask Olga anyway — Dmitriy usually knows who to call, and there is nothing in it for us.
- Roofing. Different trade, different insurance, and a roof is not somewhere to learn.
- Major electrical and plumbing. Anything behind the wall or in the panel is a specialist trade and not ours.
- Structural work. If a wall is moving, you need an engineer before you need a painter.
- HVAC. Not our trade at all.
- Commercial jobs over three storeys. We are three people with ladders and staging, not a scaffolding company.
