Deck replacement and new deck builds
A new deck runs $45–$85 per square foot installed, depending on the material, and most builds take our crew 3–6 days. That covers new footings, framing, boards and railings. The work carries a written one-year warranty, and the estimate is free.

Everything the job includes, in the order we do it
- 01
Plan the deck with you
Size, height, stairs, railing and material are settled on site, and Dmitriy writes one price for the build.
- 02
Check what your city needs
Raised decks and decks attached to the house often need a permit. Check with your city before the build date.
- 03
Tear out the old deck
Boards, railings and failed framing come out before any new work starts.
- 04
Footings and posts
Posts go on footings set in line and level. This is the part that decides whether the deck stays flat.
- 05
Framing
Beams and joists go in, and the deck is tied to the house where it attaches. Framing is checked for level before any boards go on.
- 06
Boards
Decking is laid with even gaps so water drains through, and the ends are cut in a straight line.
- 07
Railings and stairs
Railings are built solid enough to lean on, and stairs are laid out so every step is the same height.

Clean up and walk it
Offcuts and the old deck leave with us, and we walk the new deck with you.
The boards are what you see, but the footings and framing are what you pay for. They are the part a cheaper bid usually saves on.

What deck replacement costs
Material sets most of the price: pressure-treated sits at the low end, cedar in the middle and composite at the top. Height, stairs and railing style move it too.
| Scope | Typical timeline | Starting at |
|---|---|---|
| New deck, installed | 3–6 days | $45 / sq ft |
| Deck repair instead | 1–3 days | $500 |
| Staining the new deck | 2–3 days | $3 / sq ft |
At $45–$85 a square foot, a 200 sq ft deck is $9,000–$17,000 installed, depending on material.
Cedar, pressure-treated or composite?
Pressure-treated costs least and takes stain once it dries out. Cedar looks better and resists rot naturally but needs regular staining. Composite costs most up front and needs the least upkeep, though the framing under it is still wood.
Can you rebuild just the top and keep the framing?
If the framing is sound, yes, and that is priced as a large repair rather than a new deck. We check the framing at the estimate and tell you which one your deck needs.
Do we need a permit?
Often, for decks that are raised or attached to the house. The rules differ by city, so check with yours before the build.
How long before we can stain a new deck?
Cedar and pressure-treated lumber need to dry out first, often for weeks or more. Sprinkle water on a board: when it soaks in instead of beading, it is ready for stain.
Can you build a balcony or an upper-level deck?
Yes. One of the jobs in our photos is a second-storey balcony stripped back to the frame and rebuilt in cedar.
Is the new deck covered by a warranty?
Yes, one year in writing on the workmanship: framing, fasteners, boards and railings we built.
